The Philippines is one of the world’s largest archipelago nations. It is situated in Southeast Asia in the Western Pacific Ocean. Its islands are classified into three main geographical areas – Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.

The white triangle stands for equality the blue for peace, truth and justice; and red field for patriotism and valor. The eight rays of the sun stand for first eight provinces that colonizers have put under martial law. Three stars symbolize Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.

Symbolic of the Filipino's bravery and strength. The lord of the skies, the Philippine Eagle is the world's largest eagle and can only be found in our country. However, this raptor is critically endangered due to deforestation and habitat destruction.

The Philippine national flower is called “sampaguita” which is generally known as the Arabian Jasmine. Its white color symbolizes purity, simplicity, humility, and strength.

Generally known as rosewood it is tall and symbolizes the lofty ideals of the Filipino people. It is tall, strong, enduring and signify the persistence of the Filipinos in their demand for freedom. While other trees are bent or uprooted by storms, the narra usually withstands such disaster.

Developed by the indigenous populations of the Philippines, who used an assorted range of weaponry for combat and self-defense. Encompassing both simple impact and edged weapons, arnis traditionally involved rattan, swords, daggers and spears.

There are 7,641 islands


The official count is 7,641, which makes it among the largest archipelagos on the planet. There used to be 7,107 (as you will see embedded into the logo of Zabana rum), but an additional 534 islands were added in 2017. Only 2,000 of these islands are inhabited.

There are 175+ languages in the country


There are at least 175 languages spoken in the Philippines and at least 171 of them are considered 'living' languages. You'll have no trouble being understood though since more than 52 million people speak English, making it the fifth largest English-speaking nation in the world.

English is more widely spoken than you think


More people speak English in the Philippines (52 million speakers) than in Australia (26 million). Only the United States, India, Pakistan, and the UK boast more English speakers than the Philippines. On a related note, English is the only language that has more non-native speakers than native ones.
